Ferrata delle Trincee: History and Adrenaline at Porta Vescovo
The Ferrata delle Trincee runs along the volcanic ridge of Padon, offering unrivalled views stretching from the Marmolada glacier to the Sella massif. It is a route steeped in history, passing through tunnels and emplacements dating back to the First World War.
* Strategic start: It’s very easy to get there from Arabba. Chalet Aria is just 150 metres from the ski lifts that take you directly to Porta Vescovo (2,478 m), the perfect starting point for the hike.
* Difficulty: Classified as difficult for experienced, well-equipped climbers (EEA). The crux of the route is the start: a vertical slab of around 30 metres on smooth rock that requires strength and excellent technique.
The Cesare Piazzetta Via Ferrata: The Extreme Ascent of Piz Boè
Regarded as one of the most challenging and technically demanding via ferratas in the Dolomites, the **Ferrata Piazzetta** leads to the summit of Piz Boè at an altitude of 3,152 metres.
* Access: The starting point is the nearby Pordoi Pass, which is easily accessible from Arabba. The actual start of the route is reached after a gravelly approach towards the Pordoi Ossuary.
* The route: The first few metres are extremely challenging, characterised by an almost vertical face with few handholds, which must be negotiated largely using arm strength. Once you have crossed a picturesque suspension bridge, the technical difficulties ease off, giving way to an exhilarating climb towards the summit.
